I think this book offers black people an outline for what needs to be done in order for us to free ourselves from the slave mentality that was forced upon us through slavery. Learn our history before 1619 as well as after, learn to think for ourselves as oppose to store information others teach us, find ways to do for ourselves like creating ways to make money that are new and unique to us. Study to be doctors and lawyers, study politics and use the skills and knowledge for the uplifting of our own communities, do not abandon our communities or exploit them for our own personal gain. Woodson gives us so much great advice as to how black people can begin to overcome our oppression, through learning to love ourselves and then love one another we can build trusting and supportive relationships with one another that will enable us to commit and work together for the liberation of our people.

This book will help you understand the internalized racism that we as African-Americans suffer; but more importantly, it provides a catalyst for healing the wounds of internalized racism. A GREAT READ, BUT HARD TO STOMACH THE PAST.

This is a very excellent book that probes into the process of educating the Black Race in America. It shows how White Supremacy policies were created to prevent an equal and fair education for Black people in America. In many cases one can see from the book it was all by design and purpose. The Author shows that a weak curriculum lead to failure and mis-education during that time period. This is a great book for understanding why a race of people did not achieve the type of success to elevate them up from the bottom.

Historical fiction at its best!

Gentle Harrie Clarke felt like she was coming apart at the seams; haunted by the earlier actions of her friends, Friday Woolfe, Sarah Morgan and herself where a man had died (admittedly he had deserved it), she couldn’t stop her thoughts going there continually. Her guilt was eating her up and blackness was creeping into her soul. To take her mind off her troubles, Harrie agreed to learn the art of tattooing when local tattooist Leo offered her the job. She was to practise on Friday, but Friday knew that Harrie’s work would be impeccable – her art was unique; her tattoos would reflect that.

Bella Jackson, now a high-brow brothel owner in Sydney Town, had first met Friday, Sarah and Harrie on the Isla when they were all transported to Australia in the 1830s for various misdemeanours; they all hated one another – Bella was vindictive and cruel plus she was blackmailing the girls. But murder and mayhem was rife on the streets of Sydney Town and when it connected them all, the consequences were dire.

Then when things couldn’t possibly become worse for Harrie – they did. Her devastation was immense; she felt herself losing touch with reality and didn’t bother to fight it. Would grief and torment always be a way of life for Harrie Clarke, or would her friends (who had troubles of their own) be able to unite and save her? And what would be the outcome?

Oh my goodness, I LOVE this series!!! The Silk Thief by Aussie author Deborah Challinor was completely and absolutely amazing! Historical fiction at its best; and with the distinct Australian flavour makes it so much more delectable. Highly recommended, but please start at book #1.

I'm glad I ordered it anyway

After reading several critical reviews here, I was a little hesitant to buy this book. I'm glad I ordered it anyway.

Despite the fact that the art in this book is excellent, it's not a coffee table book, nor is it an art showcase for the authors. This book is designed for the beginner to intermediate level artist who wants to get a good understanding of what happens when a human face goes about the business of describing emotions and feelings.

The book consists of 2 main parts. The first part is an illustrated breakdown and explanation of individual facial features. In other words, a step-by-step approach to drawing expressive eyes, noses, chins, etc. All the essentials are presented and thoroughly covered with the underlying anatomy taken into consideration. The second part shows how all these parts of the face work together to convey a believable character expression.

My favorite part of the book is where the authors created a character for each set of emotions and dedicated a page spread to each expression. Each spread is a step-by-step drawing tutorial with a short paragraph of useful instructions for every step.

I wanted to improve my confidence and skill in sketching and drawing cartoon expressions and this book did the job perfectly. Big thanks to the authors and the publisher for putting it together.

Wonderful character studies

I use this book in my art class to show how facial features change with expressions. The book has wonderful series of characters who are put through various situations, and it shows how to re-draw their face through each expression change. The art is superb, especially compared to other books in its price-range. The only issue is that I have had to censor the book because some of them images are not school appropriate. There are several (heavily exaggerated) scantily clad women and a man who goes through the stages of being drunk and hungover.

Thank God He Gave Us SEAL Team Warriors

FULL DISCLOSURE: I have friends who are former Teams guys who, along the way, helped me stay safe in my career thus I do have a special place in my heart for these guys. That said, I've never met Mr. Lacz so I have no personal connection with him though I learned, after reading his book that he apparently lives in my old stomping grounds in the Panhandle.

I bought this book after seeing him on Fox & Friends talking about his book. I decided I'd buy it as a way of quietly supporting him and those who have fought for us. I figured it would be like all the other books out there where authors talks more about their accomplishment, with perhaps some embellishments here and there, mix in a little CDI (chick dig it) lingo and presto "I'm a hero." That is NOT the case at all here. Mr. Lacz gives the ground truth of war and the warriors who fight to protect our freedoms along with his own experiences, warts and all.

The Last Punisher will put you under the helmet and in the books kicking of moon dust as you walk the streets of Ramadi. But where other "warrior" books want to share only the "good" stuff, Lacz shares some of the otherwise "boring" stuff to give the reader a better perspective of how things actually happen. He talks about the number of times they got geared up, stressed trying to get to their objective, finding nothing, then stressed getting safely back home. It happens. Not every day is profitable. Yet they still paid the fee in sweat equity and fatigue only to come up empty handed. But when they were profitable, grab your backside and hold on. If you've seen the movies; American Sniper, Lone Survivor, 13 hrs, and so forth, you can easily visualize where Lacz is taking you. You can easily visualize how SEALs move from cover to cover. You walk along side of him, preparing for a direct action contact. And you're there with the guys witnessing him screwing things up.

But beyond putting you under the helmet, Lacz puts you in the head of a warrior and shares what it take to survive mentally. And why, when they come back home, they have nowhere near the difficulty readjusting to life than the other 98% of us would have. Sure their humor may be "sick" to some. Sure they may find something funny it's hitting the fan. It is something very difficult to grasp if you've never been there and Lacz takes us to there. "Teams and shhhstuff." (Forgive me Dauber but Amazon censors)

Lacz does not get into the politics of war save for the REMFs (get the book for the definition) who were calling the shots putting people in harms way oftentimes with poor judgment. The politics were clearly pay grades above his and I believe he was right to leave his opinions out of this book. For managers and supervisor, pay attention here. Learn to read your people. Learn how to feed them and how to rest them. Learn how to keep them hungry for more. And if you're not shedding tears when he shares bringing Marc Lee (HOOYAH! MARC LEE) home, you're not human and you need to get yourself checked out.

If you're an American, if you love this country, please show your support with the purchase of this book. It's such a small price to pay for what he and the SEAL Team THREE "Punishers" have given you.

Like most good SEAL books

BTF and buy this book

I give "The Last Punisher" 5 stars because it not only exceeded my expectations but it made an effect on my own life. I was anticipating a "cool" SEAL book but what I read was a very well written book about a young man who I have a lot in common with. The author gives a realistic, in depth description of the gnarliest ground battle in the Iraq war. Like most good SEAL books, "The Last Punisher" is filled with intense action and cool weapons. What separates this book is that it reads more like a novel, developing characters, personifying war and the juxtaposition of life and death. Throughout the book I found myself laughing, crying, understanding and learning about how 1% of people are capable of such things as becoming a US Navy SEAL, being able to confront the enemy downrange and send a heavy dose of US ammunition while serving as a steward of the flag.

I personally was inspired to change my life and find my own inner SEAL throughout my own life. The motivating mantra to "BTF" (big tough frog) right through tough points in your life is a message that everyone can relate to. In the business world, I work with a team of individuals who need to work together to accomplish their goals. The way Kevin describes his training, preparation, communication and the execution of his teams missions gave me a new insight on how I could do the same with mine.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for fascinating account of a true American hero. You will not want to put this book down and when you are finished, you'll want to BTF your life.

Best book on the teams I've read. Fast furious funny. I think this book speaks to the heart of war like few do. Great in every sense.
